My name is Szymon Kowalski.

I’m a guitar builder who runs SKG Workshop.
To cut a story short, I was lucky to grow up in a small cottage house next to my father’s carpentry workshop. So woodworking was always a part of my DNA.
Living in a small village is an obstacle for many, but I used it best. First, I spent thousands of hours on a school bus, so I got time to dive deep into guitar music, which led me to build my first guitar at 15. Second, I could be close to nature and wood sourcing, available to observe only in places like my home.
At some point, I realized that being a professional guitar builder is a path that seduces me the most, and I can’t refuse it, partially because my father built his first guitar back in the ’80s in the lodgings with nothing, just hand tools. And I already had a better start, being way younger than he was then.
What would you do with such a legacy and opportunities?

Like many builders, I fell in love with vintage recreations. In my case, not because there’s a vast market for that, but mostly because I love to work old-fashioned, using old tools and recipes.

As a designer and guitar builder, I believe that creating your designs is the ultimate goal we’d love to achieve.

Decades later, our Workshop got reconstructed but stands still in the same place. I’m happy to still have my father around, who’s now an SKG employee. We produce original but vintage-based guitars and pickups, and we ship our instruments worldwide.
